James – Step Forward Tees Valley Programme

“This experience has boosted my confidence & made me feel excited about my future. I really enjoyed the Amacus course.   It was a relaxed atmosphere which made me feel happy & comfortable, & more importantly allowed me to be myself, as I was really nervous on the first day.  I got a lot of help & advice from my tutor who supported and motivated me throughout”
James, Step Forward Tees Valley Programme

James was referred by his Step Forward Tees Valley navigator onto Amacus’ Personal Development and Wellbeing Programme in order to develop his confidence and better understand his skills.

Prior to attending the programme James’ only work experience was an apprenticeship at Hartlepool Council as a refuse collector and other various work placements.

Throughout the course James gained confidence, learnt how to cope under pressure and deal with stress. He also became aware of his skills and attributes, as well as developing new skills. He learnt how plan and prepare for interviews and work as part of a team.  James was also able to improve his numeracy and literary skills throughout this course.

Following the programme James was delighted to be offered a work trial opportunity at Hartfield Manor, Hartlepool, as a kitchen porter. James said:

“This course has really changed my life. The mock interview really taught me how to communicate better with others and helped me to give good answers in my interview by using the techniques we were taught”.
